Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council in partnership with and led by Carlow County Council Arts Service; it is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity, and the arts. In County Carlow on Friday September 22nd 2023, doors will open across the county with special and unique events from the afternoon and late into the evening. Culture Night seeks to actively promote the belief that rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives.
This year’s programme is free, diverse, open, inclusive and celebrates some of the very best cultural offerings from across the county. Carlow will be hosting 33 events from 3pm until late these events are coordinated through the Carlow County Council Arts Service. This year we also see Carlow hosting ‘Culture Night Late’ which is being held in VISUAL Carlow, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, under the Night Time Economy Taskforce to offer audiences a greater diversity in their Culture Night experience late into the night, and to encourage more inclusive and innovative late-night arts events suitable for all. Culture Night invites everyone, everywhere on one joyful night to discover and celebrate all that our culture is today. With a rich and diverse programme from across the county we will see communities and artists come together from history groups, musicians, storytellers, visual artists, theatre makers, performers, song writers, poets, and choirs. Most events are family friendly and celebrate diversity, inclusion and just about every culture expression
On Culture Night we will see Fairy Ring Walks, Traditional song and dance, Yoga workshops, art collections, installations, Irish language, artist talks, creative workshops, community storytelling, local musician showcases, African Drumming, Music, a Craft documentary, live performances, a showcase, and stories of the LGBTI+ communities, exhibitions, and a Big Sing. Then late into the night for 18+ we will see a ping-pong disco@ VISUAL Carlow. All of this has been made possible with the support of local volunteer committees, huge commitment by local businesses particularly in Tullow County Carlow and collaboration from across our cultural services that include our library services, arts, county museum, Heritage, and VISUAL Carlow. We also see some of our very best venues, heritage sites, from the Brownshill Dolmen to Myshall, community centres, local organisations, informal and formal education sector, local bars, and businesses working in partnership with one another, to make this a great evening of Culture for all
