The Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, cllr Brian O’Donoghue has announced a bursary in partnership with Carlow County Council Library Service.
The council is offering five bursaries to support postgraduate students who live in County Carlow and will be in the form of an Apple MacBook Air to assist the successful postgraduate students in their research and studies.
The objective of the bursary scheme is to support students of Masters and PhD programmes to encourage research and innovation at third level.
Cllr O’Donoghue said: “As Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, I believe that it is critically important that we invest in education, research and development and above all, that we invest in people and their education. Education is the most important cornerstone of our society. We have almost emerged from the COVID 19 pandemic due to the education, research and development of the scientific community and the vaccines that they have developed, and this is just one example. There are many more that may go a lifetime without acknowledgement but are just as important if not as publicised. As Cathaoirleach I am pleased to launch the 2023 bursary scheme for postgraduate students. This scheme is open to all postgraduate students that live in our County. Carlow is now a University County and this bursary is an acknowledgment of the importance that we place on accessible education and learning to all.”
Applications for the Cathaoirleach’s bursary are invited from current postgraduate and prospective postgraduate students who live in County Carlow.
Application forms are available on request from Carlow County Council Library Service at 059 912 9705 or by email to library@carlowcoco.ie Applicants must live/have an address in County Carlow and be a current full-time or part-time postgraduate student or be accepted to start in a postgraduate programme in 2023.
