Detailed Information

Gas Networks Ireland owns, operates and maintains the natural gas network in Ireland.

With abundant capacity for additional connections, our network consists of over 14,000km of gas pipeline supplying 700,000 business and domestic customers, in 21 counties across Ireland, with a safe, reliable and secure supply of natural gas, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We are keen to see greater utilisation of the network and look for opportunities to expand the network and its use, where viable.
Addressing climate change is a key priority for us and we are committed to playing a leading role in decarbonising Ireland’s energy future. In 2019, we introduced renewable gas into the network for the first time. We also launched Vision 2050 – our plan to achieve a Net Zero Carbon Gas Network for Ireland by 2050 and to support emission reductions, across every sector of the Irish economy, at the lowest cost possible.

We are also currently transporting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) – a cleaner, cheaper and proven alternative to diesel or petrol – to a network of fuelling stations for use in fleet transport.
Aurora Telecom, our dark fibre broadband business’ national network links Dublin to Cork (via Athlone, Galway, Ennis, Shannon and Limerick). Works are underway to complete the Cork to Dublin return loop (via Blessington, Carlow, New Ross and Dungarvan).
