THE council has been given the go-ahead to progress to the next stage in the refurbishment of a row of derelict houses on Barrack Street, but part of the project is still in limbo despite the council having a deep well of funding to pay for the work.  The council received €22 million from the Ubran Regeneration Development Fund to redevelop and enhance the centre of Carlow town, and 11 derelict houses on Barrack Street are part of its overall plans.  The PBarrack Street project is at the concept and design stage and tenders have been put out for the works. Plans incude renovating seven of the houses first, before demolishing the final four to provide a walkway into Carlow Shopping Centre.
