AFTER a very successful 2023 summer concert with Carlow Choral Society, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra returns to Carlow with a performance of Verdi’s Requiem on Friday 31 May at 8pm in Carlow cathedral.
Verdi’s Requiem is an unusually operatic monumental work for a requiem with its large orchestra and equally large chorus. The work is famous for its dramatic arias and choruses and it is fitting that it will be performed in Carlow cathedral.
Joining the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Carlow Choral Society are soprano Sylvia O’Brien, mezzo soprano Raphaela Mangan, tenor Lawrence Thackery and bass John Molloy, conducted by renowned Carlow Choral Society musical director Blánaid Murphy. Celebrating 150 years since its first performance in 1874, Verdi’s Requiem is an iconic, powerful and emotional setting of the requiem mass.
The work, famous for its dramatic arias and choruses will be performed with almost 100 choir member voices in the magnificent setting of Carlow Cathedral. This choral masterpiece will bring you to a different realm and is a must for music lovers.
The concert is supported by Carlow County Council, Carlow Tourism and Music Network.
